The summer's fading,
And I'm so sad to see it go
Because he's fading too.

He's inseperably entwined with
The Heat and the Bright light,
The July thunderstorms that
Drown our streets and
Light up our skies

I want to hold on to him
To keep him with me
But he's slipped through my fingers
Like so much careless sand

When the summer's finally gone
He'll be gone too
Irretrievably moved beyond my grasp
And just as I could never
Recall the summer's heat
To my fingertips
Likewise I can never
Call him back to me.
